Person admits sexual offenses targeting children at summer program
An individual who contaminated candy with sedative and distributed them to minors at a summer program in the region has pleaded guilty to sexual crimes against two young males aged nine and ten years old.
The defendant was detained after eight minors and a grown-up experienced illness at the facility in July.
The 76-year-old, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a total of 17 charges when he stood at the courthouse on recently.
Nevertheless, he denied one of the sexual offences he was charged with, which was involving a young boy.
Ruben was remanded in custody ahead of a additional proceeding on 28 November.
'Candy game'
Mary Prior KC, prosecuting, detailed the criminal behavior to the legal proceedings.
She explained his targets were children from difficult backgrounds who were attending a summer program which he ran.
Ruben played a "treat game" with the minors, the legal counsel said, in which he would access the boys' rooms when they were getting ready for bed and tell them to ingest treats "rapidly".
She stated to the judge the man had conducted this practice with the young males "over an extended period", and minors had previously become sick the following morning.
She said the defendant had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the minors being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepson had concerns in summer 2025.
Mrs Prior KC added: "In the summer" his stepchild had suspicions about the situation, justifiably.
"They chose" to examine in the individual's items."
The prosecutor stated items including baby oil, Vaseline and injection devices were discovered, and his stepchild contacted the authorities about his concerns.
She explained Ruben proceeded to conduct the "sweet game" with six children that night - Saturday 26 July - and they were all sick the subsequent day.
"Authorities" had not arrived by that stage," she continued.
The oversight body, the police conduct office, previously told that it was investigating the police response of the events.
The prosecutor stated the children were having difficulty walking due to their condition, so Ruben's stepson notified the authorities a second time.
She stated the defendant then played the "sweet game" in a space of five youngsters.
